Spamalot is the Monty Python musical that has been “lovingly ripped off” from the acclaimed 1975 film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The original Broadway production of Spamalot won three Tony Awards including the awards for Best Musical and Best Direction of a Musical. Spamalot also won a Grammy Award in 2006 for Best Musical Show Album.
Find your grail this spring as Studley Operatic Society brings you the chance of a lifetime to experience one of the greatest musicals of the modern age.
The plot of Spamalot is almost exactly the same as the movie; King Arthur along with his squire, Patsy and a selection of knights go on an epic quest to find the Holy Grail, amongst them are Sir Bedevere, Sir Robin, Sir Lancelot, and Sir Galahad. On their quest they meet such characters as the Lady of the Lake, a castle full of farting Frenchmen, Prince Herbert, Tim the Enchanter, Not Dead Fred, the Black Knight, a killer rabbit and the Knights who say Ni.
Spamalot is jam packed with silly songs to match the action such as “I Am Not Dead Yet,” “The Song that Goes Like This,” and “The Diva’s Lament (Whatever Happened to My Part.” The show also includes the song originally made famous by Monty Python in The Life of Brian, “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” which is always a crowd pleaser!
Spamalot is an evening of all singing, all dancing silliness set in the time of King Arthur and Camelot. You can be sure it’ll be a ‘Knight’ to remember!!
We also invite you to come in costume on the Friday night if you wish.
